Basic Security Measures You Should Follow

The world wide web (WWW) is an open playground for people all over the globe. And, if you think there are only good people out there providing you with free music, videos, images, quotes, and what not? then definitely you are WRONG!

You must be prepared for the worst and the worst, since there are many crooks waiting to break into your life, by exploiting your online presence.

If you are a regular (even if not) computer or any electronic device user you should take into consideration following basic security measures to ensure your safety in terms of Cyber Crime and not get fooled into something very nasty.

You are a Target

If you think "No one is gonna target me", then either you are an Alien or you are somewhere outside the Milky Way Galaxy.
Always, consider yourself a target to be exploited, THE VERY FIRST SECURITY MEASURE YOU CAN FOLLOW!

Cut-off Sensitive Information from the Web

Sounds like, a common-sense thing right? But, do you remember putting your personal details over the survey just to download that free Microsoft Office Activator or that protected Game Keygen?

Never, ever share your sensitive information that makes the task easy for hackers/attackers. Information such as Personal/Work Email ID's, Identification Numbers (SSN, UID, etc.), and so on.

Never touch Untrusted sources

Simple as it sounds, never ever get lured into opening unsolicited attachments to emails, untrusted download links making you download some free cracked version application, and many more like these.

If you ever have doubt in opening any file just keep in mind that VirusTotal is your friendly neighborhood.
Just upload the file in doubt to virustotal[.]com and it will scan that file using a number of Anti-Malware (Virus) vendors such as Sophos, Symantec, Bitdefender, Kaspersky, etc. and if they detect the file as malicious, the results will be shown in red if malicious or not.

Note: Please avoid uploading your confidential files to VirusTotal since the files can be read and accessed by third party vendors.

Use a Anti-Malware(Virus) Software

As a Threat Researcher, we work 24/7 * 365 days to ensure making the digital world a safer place, protecting people from the day to day malware.
So, yes its not a waste of money to use a good Anti-Malware(Virus) Software and also keeping it updated with latest definitions to be protected against new threats in the market.

P.S: If in any doubt regarding any of such situation, feel free to reach out. Cheers!
